I bought this 43″ TV to replace a TCL Roku TV. I’ve had this TV now for a month. What a difference! It was delivered on time and the box was carefully handled by the carrier. This is my 3rd Amazon TV purchase that has gone oh so well. It is highly compatible, simple to install, and simple to use.

OUT OF THE BOX: Right out of the box, everything assembled perfectly. I love that these TV feet have two options for height. The feet seem sturdier than most thin profile “A frame” feet. The feet have two height options and the highest option pulled the TV right up over my sound bar so the remote could reach the TV sensor. JOY. My last TV I had to put the sound bar behind and it muted some of the sound. I read on the Samsung site that you can purchase a pedestal stand that sits on the floor. That would free up dresser space. I don’t have a very flashy or large sound bar but it installed easily and I found the correct location to plug in the back. I did buy gold plated HDMI cord for the sound bar. My one gripe is that all the “labels” for the ports are just raised black plastic letters. I thought about labeling them for later, but did not. They need to be better defined, painted, peel off label, something different. It was hard to see those port names. This is not a deal breaker because once the sound bar was set up, I won’t be accessing those much in the future. I tried also attaching a blue tooth small speaker just to test the blue tooth and it worked! I really felt like an expert at this point. The TV sound without a sound bar is adequate and not bad and there are several sound presets and settings. I had it set up within 20 minutes and did have some help getting it out of the box and up on my dresser. We did not wall mount, but it is so thin it would be excellent as a wall mounted TV. The TV updated with the latest firmware once it was turned on and running.

ANTENNA DEVICE: I attached a separate local antenna. I had a bit of a hard time finding the antenna scanner options, but with some setting exploration the TV scanned 30+ channels and now I have some local that I can search for weather and news. It will take a bit of time to find the settings in the beginning, but you will get used to them.

ROKU DEVICE: I attached a Roku Ultra to this TV. Though this TV had an app for Roku, I did not activate that one. The Roku also attached beautifully and I do not need to use my Roku remote, the Samsung remote worked so well for the Roku too!

APPS and STREAMING: All APPS easy to log in, set up and go as you would expect from a Smart TV. You can customize your APP layout. Make sure you set up your Samsung account. You get Samsung TV+ straight out of the box. All streaming apps are available and with the Roku attachment, even more! There is a gaming hub also, my daughter is going to try it out soon and there is three months free. We have minimal lag sometimes but it could be our internet. The APP icons are a little smaller than I would have loved, but not a problem. I’m streaming via WIFI and not Ethernet. No problems streaming. My router is across the house from this TV. The SmartThings app helps to also integrate this TV with many other devices throughout the living space.

REMOTE: On to the remote which seems to be the nemesis of those that don’t adapt well to change. A couple weeks in, I was all about this remote! Yes it is very small, but once you get used to it, you can maneuver all over the TV. Voice access works well though sometimes not as “smart” as my Roku remote voice commands. It uses Bixby and Alexa. The remote charges with solar to room light OR you can charge with a USB plugin type C. Give the remote a chance, it was a little challenging at first but now I love it! Samsung remote operates the sound bar perfectly for volume and on/off. I am not sure that other features of the sound bar work with Samsung remote like the sound bar preset sounds. If I want to change those I just use the sound bar remote. You can check the remote battery level in settings. I’ve not had to plug it in to charge yet but I did to test and it works fine.

SUGGESTED SETTINGS: As stated in another review: The default picture mode looks like you are looking through a window. You can change that if you don’t like it by switching to dynamic mode. Additionally the Gama setting may be too high for you and you can change to the minimum. Do play around with the settings for the best picture quality. It is also suggested to change the “Motion Xcelerator” by moving the slider called “Judder Reduction. Default is 10 which is maximum. Try setting it to 1 or 2 to get the best fast action scenes with no ghosting or artifacts. Great for sports action! I’m still learning some settings.

CONTRASTS: Contrasts are fantastic and the black seems to be very deep and rich. I notice some back lighting but ONLY on the default screen saver..

BRIGHTNESS: I’m truly not understanding anyone complaining about the brightness, but they are. My bedroom faces the South and has two large windows which brings in maximum sunlight during the day. There is no problem with the TV being bright enough at all when watching in the daytime.with fully opened blinds and curtains.

COLORS and PICTURE: Crystal clear and vibrant, with no blurriness/ High resolution and dramatic display. Everything to love! Beautiful projection on the display from any seating position in the room.

Eighteen days ago a new Samsung television arrived…my third from Samsung in ten years, so usually I am pleased with their product.
UPDATE: Samsung finally delivered a replacement tv, almost a month after it was initially ordered from Amazon. My mistake was in calling Samsung Support, thinking that I was the reason I couldn’t get it to work.
Well, now 30 days later, I’m once again attaching my unit to a stand, hooking it up, and attempting to connect a soundbar. Wait, there doesn’t seem to be a Digital Optical Cable port. What gives? Maybe it’s there, somewhere. I’ll deal with Samsung Support tomorrow. Arrgh.
    ——

But when I turned this one on, the screen offered two options, 1) the Samsung Remote, or 2) a Samsung app (which I downloaded, etc.). Trouble was, neither would start the set. So I went online, was provided a Service Ticket Number, and a couple days later a technician came to the house, tried starting it up, and reported that it wasn’t me, there really was a problem with the set.
So he reported it, and via texts I was told that:
    a) someone would come to reclaim the non-functioning set (in 2 to 4 business days), and
    b) approximately a week later I would receive a replacement unit.
That was 19 days ago (and counting).
In the meantime, I have texted Samsung Service for hours. Their initial email included an icon that would supposedly take me directly to service when clicked, but hard to believe in 2023, that link led to “404, file not found.”
And since there is no direct phone number for Samsung Service, I was forced to go through a maddening routing tree (e..g. press 1 for telephone sales, 2 for television sales, 3 for refrigerators…etc.) until I somehow got an AI Chat to direct my inquiry to what was supposed to be a human. This past week I have spent over ten hours three consecutive nights getting sympathetic rhetoric… and misinformation.
Mid-week I was surprisingly provided with a UPS “trucking” (sic) number and told the new unit would be delivered the following day. So I “trucked” the package to learn it was delivered, only to some warehouse 300 miles away.
Thus ensued another frustrating round with various incompetents, until one of them finally explained that the “trucking” number was for the company that will contact me (when?) to arrange to repossess the non-functional unit, and present me with a new one, which we hope will work.
At this point I am still within my Amazon Return window, and if I don’t get an actual exchange date in the next two days, I will by-pass Samsung and return the non-functional set. And consider purchasing a different brand.
By the way, a Google search led me to a Reddit page that shows my experience is not unique. Literally thousands of others rank Samsung Service among the worse ever. Reminds me of a Lily Tomlin routine as Ernestine the telephone operator, prior to the break-up of the Bell Telephone System: “We’re the phone company, we don’t have to care. We’re a monopoly.” Perhaps the service technicians from the Bell system are responsible for Samsung now.
    —-
Thirty days after my initial order a new, seemingly function tv was delivered, and I am in the midst of the process of setting it up. It helps that my previous tv was also a Samsung, since many of the necessary How To items are buried in the eManual that you must view on the screen.
Attached is a photo of the connection ports on the rear of the screen. They may look readily visible but understand, this is what they look like when Flash was used. Without the aid of Flash, they all blend in, dull and black. Need to reconnect a cord to different port, have fun!
My previous Samsung tv had a soundbar, which I attached to this set. However, I must have done something wrong, because thus far it doesn’t appear in my Sound Options. I don’t have the patience to deal with Support today, so that will be the project for another day. But check out the helpful online page Samsung provides. Do you have a clue as to which letter of the alphabet your set might be?

BTW, the rear of my television did not have white lettering, like what is shown in the photo that Amazon has accompanying this offering. As a result, it was two days of frustrating searching before I was able to locate the Optical port for the cable. Hint: it is NOT on the side along with the others, but rather about two inches to the right of the other ports, just below an HDMI port.

We were looking for a much bigger TV to go on our wall in our family room. I was really kind of set on an LG, when I came across this TV. As I read the reviews really carefully I was worried about the remote but the TV sounded great. The TV is absolutely fantastic! I have to say that I like the remote. It is quite small but it’s nice that it will do a solar charge or you can hook it into a USB as well. You do want to keep track of the remote because it is small but I think it’s really easy to use. The TV is super clear. Some people say that they don’t think it’s very bright but I think it’s more than adequate. They also mentioned some settings that were a problem for them. Specifically an artifact setting for sports. I watch a lot of sports and I was worried about it but when I went into the detailed menu from the good gentleman who wrote about that in his review, my settings were already set to a 2. And that’s what he had suggested as well. So basically we hung it on the wall. It took about 5 minutes to set up and we were streaming happily minutes later. I couldn’t be more happy with this TV.

Samsung 50-Inch 4K Crystal UHD LED Smart TV with HDR, Motion… Great TV. Bought to hang on wall in bedroom (replaced giant Plasma sitting on dresser for years). Easy to install, works great, looks great, perfect for wall mount. Speakers are not made for cranking tunes. Again, perfect for a bedroom. I like the simplicty of the remote.

  5. Placeholder

We wanted a mid priced replacement TV and didn’t need all the bells and whistles. This is a very good TV, easy to install, good for the price, clear picture, hooks up easily to a Yamaha sound bar, pairs easily with Roku remote for Roku and sound control. The only drawback is that it does reflect lamps in the screen, so you have to turn those off near where you are watching.

  6. Uncle Squinty

This will sound strange, but I am a totally blind owner of this television. I have only one problem with the TV; the speech output for blind users drastically slows down the microprocessor in the TV. Furthermore, once the speech has started, it cannot be interrupted. For instance, I may only need to know what channel I’m on, but the screen reader gives me everything short of my horoscope and life hacks… LOL Otherwise, brilliant. Love that the TV is Aelxa ready, loaded with youtube, Amazon Prime, Netflicks and (I’ll never watch it), Disney Plus. But yes, you have to be subscribed to the services. 4.8 out of 5…not quite a 5. Oh yeah, and the solar charged remote control is very cool; you can also charge it via USB.

The color is great the simplicity of setting it up. Looks great on my wall. This is the Third Samsung tv I have had in 40 years. I got my first one from a warehouse club. Second from a tech box store and now from Amazon. Samsung is a very good product. I have had good tvs from them. They seem to last pretty long. The color on this one is very good and it set up really easy. We were watching tv in no time. I just had to have someone help us get it up on the wall. Once we did, we plug it in and away we went. Very nice indeed.

Out of the box: SIZE This is a BIG TV! 85″ and every bit of the 91lbs listed as advertised. I upgraded from the Samsung 65″ 4K 3D Curve TV. Don’t worry, I still have it, just moved to another room! If you’re shy or concerned about the weight have this professionally installed! I mounted this on my wall. I have 9′ ceilings and the wall length is 17′ 3/4″. I can still say, this is a BIG TV!

SETUP One of the easiest setups I’ve havd. I 4 Samsung TV’s, and 2 other smart TV’s. This was the easiest to setup by far! The intuitive interface of the TV is sophisticated and yet friendly if you’re willing to slow your excitement to watch your favorite movie on such a large screen. Take the time to “dial in” your picture. Follow the prompts and don’t hesitate to click on “advanced” in the display menu. Here, you can really fine tune your picture! Why should you do this? This is not a QLED or an OLED TV. Don’t let that fool you! This “Crystal” TV can bring you an incredible picture, able to display 1 Billion colors! You owe it to yourself to spend time in the “Display” menu and really make the adjustments to your liking! After all, this is 4K UHD TV!

Before I purchased this TV, I read ever single negative review. I am convinced of a few things: This Is 2023 technology and you should really take the time to research this TV at you local store. Simple things like a “Solar Remote” and not liking the sound quality, are just a few things people complained about. I have a big room, and a big wall. Sound straight from this TV surprised me! As a studio engineer, I didn’t have any expectation of “Awesome Sound”. (That’s why you purchase a surround sound system or a sound bar) What sound this TV delivers is quite pleasant and fills my room. If you want movie quality sound, don’t blame the TV! The technology is built into the TV! Take advantage and purchase a good system and your movie experience will be complete!

FINALLY This 85″ 4K UHD Crystal TV is worth the money! The smart features are PLENTY! The quality of picture is incredible. Sure you could pay $3-4K more for a smaller QLED or OLED. At 85″, the price point comparison simply didn’t make any sense! I’ve already watched everything from network television to Sci-fi, and sports. I’m very picky and not easily pleased. However, this TV checked ALL the boxes. One thing to mention that I didn’t post earlier: I do have home network and Hi-speed internet! 100+Meg where the TV is hooked up and it shares the connection with my Xbox X. The 120hz refresh rate is REAL and noticeable! I have a Chromecast, and Firestick also attached. I am able to say even though the reviews talk about lagging, I have experienced NONE, and with my setup, I would have experienced it for sure bu now!

I highly recommend purchasing this Television if you are looking for more than just, “bang for the buck” and want to feel like you got a fantastic upgrade from your old setup!

  9. LAURA RENE'

We bought the 85in for ourselves as an early Christmas present! Shipping was fast and according to plan. We also did the free delivery and unpack service! It was good and if it wasn’t free I would definitely recommend paying for it because this TV is massive !
The picture is crips and colorful and the stand feet are closer together which I liked but the settings and options are really limited to basics . The sound is hollow and horrible!
I definitely had to use my sound bar.
That was a big disappointment! The remote is really small and black would be easy to loose and was a lil difficult to figure out! I expected more from Samsung! I have a Samsung 75” tv as well and it is loaded with options!
It’s a good thing we snagged this on sale for just over $1100 because if I paid full price I probably would consider sending it back ! Lol
Over all it is good, just expected more from Samsung again. Best feature is the massive 85” viewing screen , which is what we all love !

UPDATE We have had the tv for weeks now, we are really loving it! The sound is just ok by itself, but with a good sound bar is great! We use amazon fire stick, so you can Bluetooth it to your speaker system easy.
You can also adjust your screen ratios in firestick settings as well. Over all, it is a great tv and colorful. I would still purchase it again. Not to mention the one thing I love about always buying Samsung tv’s is that you get the FREE TV over 100 Channels with Samsung tv plus straight out of the box.
That has up to date live shows and news as well. That alone, you cant beat so even if you don’t have fire stick or Roku or an antenna, you still get real TV just because of Samsung TV plus. It is on your Samsung phones and tables as well just fyi. You should just purchase this tv.. its is well worth the money!

  10. Moss Pad

This Samsung TV is perfect for gaming and it is ultra thin as seen in the picture I provided. I use the TV to watch Netflix videos and to game on my Xbox Series X. I also paired it with a Samsung Soundbar Q800C. The TV is capable of transmitting Dolby Atmos sound to Dolby Atmos capable speakers or soundbars. You will need an eARC HDMI cable to be able to transmit Dolby Atmos sounds from the TV to your soundbar or speakers. The eARC cable isn’t included with the TV but they are generally available for around $20 or so.

You can also download many different apps directly to the TV such as Apple Music or Spotify. I have an Apple smartphone and I am able to use screen mirroring from my iPhone 14 Pro Max to mirror my phone’s screen to the TV. In addition, once you sign into Apple Music through your TV you can play and watch music videos in ultra high definition on the TV through your Apple Music app.

The TV has 3 HDMI ports, one of them being an eARC port so make sure you designate that port for your eARC cable that you will use for your soundbar or speakers if you choose to pair one with the TV. The best part is that if you add a Dolby Atmos Samsung Soundbar that has Q Symphony capabilities, it will transmit audio from both the TV speakers and your soundbar at the same time in Dolby Atmos from the soundbar. The Q symphony was automatically enabled just by connecting my Samsung Soundbar to this Samsung TV.

Another great thing about this TV is that it has Alexa built in. I can control the TV with Alexa through my Amazon Echo Dot. I’m very satisfied with this TV and very happy with its capabilities.
